Video Reference

1.
This video is just a few seconds. It shows that a iron ball is approaching to the man. That iron ball is created in 3D software. It looks like real.
2.
This video is shown how to show the 3D text on the building.
3.
This one uses a virtual iron ball to hit the car and damage it. It also creates a dynamic effect into the video, that smoke.
4.
A 3D virtual robot is standing on the drawing tablet, it is similar to our final year project. It also creates different movements for the robot.
5.
This video is very nice. It is completely done what we want to do in our final year project. This video has its own storyline and different movements. The lighting is good as it can match up the surrounding environment.

Week 2 and Week 3

Modelling were mostly done during week 2 and 3. Both of us spent most of the weekdays in JCS lab, trying to finish modelling the female bunny and male bunny as much as we could. The character modelling were based on polygons. Basic functions such as extrusion, cutting faces and edge looping were used in order to get the result we wanted. We used the sketches as our reference.

During week 3, we had our second meeting with our supervisor. We showed our progress to him by showing our almost complete character models, and he was clearly satisfied with it. He stated that we were probably ahead of schedule, so we just need to continue working on with the models. Further on we discussed about the next steps if our modelling has been completed. He suggested that we should think about the basic facial expressions that could apply to our characters. And later on, we discussed about when filming should be done and most importantly about our proposal presentation in week 5.

Character Design Research

Design for the bunny characters
For the compositing video, we have to design which style of the characters inside it.
Cartoon or Releastic style??
We found some reference bunny images from internet for comparing which one is better.

Then, our ideas is used the cartoon style instead of the realistic one as it is a new challenge for us to combine two elements togerther.

Here are the 2D design for our characters: Female bunny and Male bunny

Week 1

Held a meeting with our supervisor on Friday (1/10) and showed him our progress. We have got our characters and storyboard done. But before moving on to modelling the characters in Maya, we decided to get the approval from our supervisor during the meeting. All in all, he was satisfied with our progress. Later on, he gave us advice and pointed out issues that we may face during the nine month period of doing the project. Issues such as sound effects, soundtracks and audience test. The meeting lasted for about thirty minutes. After a short discussion, we agreed to have a meeting in two weeks held on Friday morning.

Introduction

This blog is created to keep account of our final year project from week 1 to week 25 of UKC term. It'll be a "9 stressful months" for us. Our final year project is entitled "Bouncing Bunnies". The project is a 3d composite video, meaning we're combining real footages and CGI animations. But it wouldnt be a 2 hours feature film, because we're just making a short film. Probably just about 3-4 minutes. So yeah, for a 3-4 minutes film, a LOT of preparations, research and works need to be done.
